Kevin Burke has been a full-time practising U.S. lawyer since 1992. After graduating from Kent State University in Ohio in 1989 with a bachelors degree in psychology, he then studied law for a further three years in law school and received a juris doctorate in law (JD) upon graduating law school at Cleveland Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in 1992, and then passed the Ohio bar exam. After practising law in Cleveland, Ohio before later moving to Florida and passing the Florida bar exam in 1994. Kevin practised from an office in Cape Coral in Lee County, Florida until 1999 when he then moved to the UK. Upon moving to the UK, he applied to become an English solicitor and passed the QLTT (Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test), and was appointed a solicitor in England & Wales. In April, 1999, he joined Bennetts Solicitors, Attorneys & Notaries in Wrington, Bristol, as both an English solicitor and as a US attorney. In 2004, Kevin returned to Florida to take the necessary course and pass the exam required for a qualified Florida lawyer to become a "Florida International Notary", which was helpful for clients with US real estate or other interests. In 2008, after passing the two year post graduate notary course at Cambridge University, he qualified as an English notary public which allows him to notarise documents for use in nations around the world. Unlike the situation in the USA where the vast majority of notaries are not legally trained, in the UK (and in other European nations) the notary is always a lawyer with training above and beyond that of a domestic lawyer. In 2009, Kevin was made a partner at Bennetts. In June 2010, after 11 years at Bennetts, I left to set up this firm. In 2011, he became a full member of STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) and in 2013 was awarded the STEP Advanced Certificate in UK Will Preparation.
