Mr John Pryde qualified as a solicitor in 1976. After two years service as a Procurator Fiscal Depute in the Crown and Procurator Fiscal Service, he went into private practice. In 1981 he founded the criminal defence practice John Pryde & Co SSC in Edinburgh. He remains a consultant with that firm.

In recent years, Mr Pryde developed an interest in Chinese culture and in particular the difficulties facing Chinese persons attempting to settle in the UK. Encouraged by his wife Lily ,who is Chinese, and her friend Jacqueline, who is Malaysian, John established Pryde Immigration Lawyers in Glasgow in 2011.
